About our school

Port Kembla Public School is an innovative and modern primary school overlooking the magnificent Illawarra coastline in the southern Wollongong suburb of Port Kembla, NSW, Australia. The school has approximately 270 students and in 2015 celebrated 125 years of public education in the Port Kembla township.

The current school site was established in 2000, with the school having been at 5 different locations since 1890. Almost every room in the school has a view of the Tasman Sea, with well established gardens and community facilities available to all. The school staff are committed to providing students with many opportunities across the curriculum as well as extra-curricula opportunities.

Port Kembla Public School consists of ten home-bases, one demountable classroom, library, communal hall, canteen, two covered outdoor learning areas, administration, games court, playground equipment, outdoor seating, landscaped gardens and a permaculture garden.

The new buildings are designed to maximise comfort conditions for students and staff while minimising energy requirements. Strip skylights over major spaces maximise natural lighting while natural ventilation is encouraged by the design of the room layout and the provision of rotary roof vents.

Comprehensive communication cabling for voice, video and data is provided through the school to support the evolution of modern teaching practices. This will permit comprehensive networking, internet and email access for staff and students.

These improved facilities complement and support modern teaching practices. They allow for greater learning interaction by students thus stimulating and enhancing learning outcomes.
