Our extra-curricular highlights
Permaculture Garden
The permaculture garden at Port Kembla Public School is a living classroom where students connect with nature, learn sustainability in action, and take pride in nurturing their environment. Guided by permaculture principles, the garden provides hands-on learning experiences that teach responsibility, teamwork, and respect for the natural world.
Students are involved in planting, composting, harvesting, and caring for our thriving garden spaces. They learn where food comes from, how ecosystems work, and how small actions can make a big difference to the planet.
The garden is also a place for creativity and wellbeing—a calm, green space that inspires curiosity and a sense of community.
Creative and performing arts
We celebrate creativity and provide our students with rich opportunities to express themselves through the arts. From visual art and drama to dance and music, the creative arts are an important part of our school culture.
Our school choir is a highlight of our program, showcasing the incredible talent and teamwork of our students. The choir performs at school events, community celebrations, and regional festivals, sharing their enthusiasm and love of music with pride. Through participation in the choir, students build confidence, develop musical skills, and experience the joy of performing as part of a united group.
At Port Kembla Public School, every child is encouraged to explore their creativity, find their voice, and shine.
Trips and excursions
Learning extends well beyond the classroom walls. Our excursions give students the opportunity to explore new environments, connect classroom learning to the real world, and build independence and confidence.
From local community visits to cultural centres, museums, and environmental programs, each excursion is carefully planned to enhance our curriculum and spark curiosity. Senior students also enjoy the excitement of overnight camps, where they develop teamwork, resilience, and lifelong memories.
These shared experiences strengthen friendships, deepen understanding, and inspire a sense of wonder about the world around us.
